A
MODEL CEW SUPPORT RESOLUTION
The Following Resolution of Support for Campus Equity Week was unanimously
passed by the Oregon AFL-CIO annual convention on Tuesday, Sept.1,
2001. Other organizations may choose to model their own support resolutions
by modifying this to fit their circumstances.

SUPPORT OF CAMPUS EQUITY WEEK
Whereas, union members know that part-time America does not work;
and
Whereas, community colleges, four-year colleges, and universities
across the United States and Canada have been relying increasingly
on the exploitation of part-time and temporary faculty and graduate
assistants; and
Whereas, these contingent workers are generally paid at a rate that
makes a mockery of the principle of equal pay for equal work, and
have little or no job security; and
Whereas, the overuse of exploited part-time and temporary faculty
seriously harms the quality of instruction and service that students
need and deserve, and for which they pay substantial tuition rates;
and
Whereas, the public needs to understand the harmful effects of this
exploitation if it is to be stopped; and
Whereas, a coalition of activists and international unions--including
the AFT and the CWA--has designated the week of October 28 through
Nov. 3 as CAMPUS EQUITY WEEK, and is organizing a variety of activities,
rallies, and media events across the United States and Canada in order
to educate the public about these abuses; now therefore be it
RESOLVED, that the Oregon AFL-CIO endorses CAMPUS EQUITY WEEK; and
therefore be it further
RESOLVED, that the Oregon AFL-CIO will inform members and affiliates
about CAMPUS EQUITY WEEK, and will urge their support of its principles.
