SUPPORT OF CAMPUS EQUITY WEEK October 27-31, 2003
North Bay Labor Council, AFL-CIO

Whereas, community colleges, four-year colleges, and universities across the United States and Canada have been relying increasingly on the exploitation of part-time and temporary faculty and graduate assistants;

Whereas, these contingent workers are generally paid at a rate that makes a mockery of the principle of equal pay for equal work, and have little or no job security;

Whereas, the overuse of exploited part-time and temporary faculty seriously harms the quality of instruction and service that students need and deserve, and for which they pay substantial tuition rates;

Whereas, a coalition of activists and international unions--including the AFT and the CWA--has designated the week of October 27 through October 31, 2003 as CAMPUS EQUITY WEEK, and is organizing a variety of activities, rallies, and media events across San Diego county in order to educate the public about these abuses; now, therefore,be it
