Whereas, EI members in North America are actively participating in CEW/FEW;

Whereas, at the 3rd Third World Congress of Education International, meeting in Jomtien, Thailand, July, 2001, EI affirmed “The rights and freedoms of higher education teaching personnel as defined in the UNESCO Recommendation concerning the Status of Higher Education Teaching Personnel” including the principle that contingent faculty should:

receive proportionately the same remuneration as higher education teaching personnel employed on a full time basis and enjoy equivalent conditions of employment; and

benefit from conditions equivalent to those of higher-education teaching personnel employed on a full-time basis as regards holidays with pay, sick leave and maternity leave

Whereas, academic freedom should extend to all academic staff regardless of the nature of their employment;

Be it resolved that EI [Education International] fully supports the efforts of our brothers and sisters in the United States, Canada, and Mexico during Campus Equity Week/Fair Employment Week and their efforts to ensure that all higher education personnel, including those working in contingent positions, enjoy academic freedom and are compensated and supported fairly.
