Lecturers Wailing Wall

San Jose State University

would like to be COMMAND CENTRAL for the LECTURER WAILING WALL for the entire CSU system and any and all community colleges, UC and so on. We will collect and publicize as many stories as we can.

As an Equity Week activity, we plan to post lecturer's own stories to our "Wailing Wall" in the Student Union (just outside the bookstore) on October 30 and 31.

The purpose of the Wailing Wall is to let faculty, students and administrators know what the life of the lecturer is really like. We want to get out the word. We don't want to be invisible any more. We will send excerpts from your stories to the press to try to gain more publicity about lecturers.

Following Equity Week, we plan to produce a brochure with excerpts to be sent to faculty, legislators, etc.

Here's how you can participate. Write a short statement about the difficulties or inequities you have encountered by being a lecturer (as opposed to a tenure-track or tenured professor). For example, you may have stories about working at several colleges or universities, about trying to make it as a single parent on a lecturer's salary, about not being able to speak freely for fear of retaliation.

The more specific (without using names) and personal you make this, the more impact it will have. If you have several stories to tell, I'd appreciate it if you could write these up separately. I'm hoping to cover the entire wall with lecturer's stories.

DO NOT SIGN YOUR NAME. You may use an alias if you like, but we should keep this anonymous. If you email your stories to me, I will only copy the story, not your name or email address.

Send your stories to Pat Sanders by email <<sandersp@email.sjsu.edu>>
