CEW
PLANS
Sonoma
State University - Rohnert Park, California
Sonoma
State
is getting speakers for noon rallies. We have the chair of our academic
senate and the president of our campus union chapter as well as
some people who were lecturers but have gotten tenure track jobs,
and of course current lecturers. We will be reserving the microphone
and amplifier for long enough that people will be able to take advantage
of an open mike after the scheduled speakers are done.
Hopefully, the scheduled speakers will be sufficiently thought provoking
that people will come up from the audience and share their experiences
and feelings. We will have to walk the halls and get people to sign
up to come to the rallies and carry picket signs. Experience with
these kinds of things suggests that if everyone is walking by, everyone
will just walk by, but if there are people standing and listening,
people will stay and listen. We will have balloons at the literature
table and lots of noisemakers
in the audience.

Sonoma Report
This is a report
on the Campus Equity Week activities at Sonoma State. We staffed
a table from 10 - 2 Monday through Thursday and had noon rallies
on Wednesday and Thursday. The table resulted in about one hundred
postcards to the chair of the Board of Trustees urging the trustees
to come to terms with the faculty.
At the rallies we had in addition to balloons, as suggested by David
Hawkins, cow bells and air horns which we distributed to the audience.
We made a good deal of noise which was heard beyond our circle of
participants. The speakers were very well received.
The list of speakers included myself, the chair of the Academic
Senate, the president of our local CFA chapter, the chair elect
of the Academic Senate who spent many years as a lecturer some time
back, the person who does most of the lecturer organizing at nearby
Santa Rosa Junior College, the director of Project Censored, a media
watchdog group at SSU which publishes a list of the top ten news
stories which have been censored by the media, who also spent quite
a few years as a lecturer, my immediate predecessor as lecturer
rep on this campus, and the newly elected senators to the newly
created lecturer seats on the Academic Senate.
