CEW PLANS

The University of Missouri - Kansas City, Missouri

The PTFA of the University of Missouri - Kansas City is planning to hold a rally on Mon, Oct 29 & Tue, Oct 30, 2001. Besides handing out fliers to students and faculty on campus, we will have readings at the microphone, music, and speeches that express the concerns of the PTFA.

We are concerned about two things:

1) In this time of war, terrorism, anthrax, etc., will the "week of action" receive the coverage it deserves? Have the Regional, Central, and Steering Committees discussed this, and to what end result?;

2) Will the CEW Steering Committee be encouraging news coverage by fax, telephone contact, e-mail in our area? In other
words, how is this USA-Canada event to be known on a national basis?

We are contacting news media about the event, so any contact made from outside of Kansas City would help to link our regional efforts with a nationwide movement.

CEW Central Coordinator Response - CEW Is a Coalition of many organizations at the US and Canadian National levels, at the state and provincial levels, at regional levels, and at local campus levels. The Central Steering Committee is using the resources of the major organizations for press/media outreach, but the power of CEW will also develop out of the outreach at other levels. I encourage all connected to CEW to use your contacts and ingenuity to spread the word as widly as possible from your local community newsletters and newspapers to public access radio and TV, to the national press.

In Solidarity,

Chris
