Sinclair Community College - Dayton, Ohio

The Sinclair Community College chapter of AAUP will be distributing buttons and literature early in the week. On Thursday afternoon, we will hold a public showing of the "Degrees of Shame" video, followed by a panel discussion on part-time and contingent faculty issues in Ohio and at Sinclair.

Think of us as you watch "Degrees of Shame." Rhine McLin (who appears in the video) is the State Senator for our district.

Our college (with a record 22,000+ students this fall) is moving gradually towards a vote on whether the Faculty Senate actually represents "all full-time faculty" (as its constitution states) or only "all tenure-track faculty" (as has been the recent practice). Full-time, non-tenure-track faculty now make up 30% of our full-time faculty compared with about 10% for public community colleges nationally. The ratio seems likely to grow as enrollment increases and Ohio cuts funding. We're hoping Campus Equity Week will help in preparing faculty for the vote and for further progress.
