The
California Part-time Faculty Association (CPFA) , a profssional
association of faculty in California's 108 community colleges, is
sponsoring a Student Essay
Contest in honor of Campus Equity Week. A First Prize of $500.00
will be awarded for the best essay submitted from colleges throughout
the 108 colleges. The subject of the 500 word essay is to be: "The
Part-Time Teacher who made the most difference in my life."
CPFA has also
developed a Petition
that will be used at many colleges throughout the California Community
College system during Campus Equity Week. The petition is directed
to Governor Gray Davis, California Legislators, and the CCC Board
of Governors, thanking them for the recent State Budget augmentation
of $57 Million dedicated to part-time faculty compensation equity,
and asks for all to follow-up on this beginning next year with additional
augmentations to rectify the decades of CCC underfunding which is
a part of the cause of part-time faculty exploitation.
